About the Art Show
MacCallum More Museum and Gardens (MMMG) is sponsoring a Juried Art Show with $1,200 in total prize money. The show will be held at the historic MacCallum More Museum and Gardens, 603 Hudgins Street, Chase City, Virginia from September 19 to October 29, 2021, and will offer a $500 first prize, $300 second prize, $150 third
prize, and a $250 Garden Award for the best depiction of the MacCallum More Gardens.
We are both pleased and honored to welcome Mr. Jeffrey Allison as this year's juror. Jeffrey W. Allison is the Paul Mellon Collection Educator and Director, Statewide Programs and exhibitions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) and a professional photographer. Jeffrey is a sought after lecturer on the arts and was consultant on the Discovery Channel series Ancient Origins of Native Americans.
What can be entered: Two-dimensional, original artwork on paper, canvas, or board, including photography, conceived and created by the entrant, will be considered. Work cannot have been created under supervision. If the work is a collage, the collage materials must be original to the artist, and created by the artist. Work must be appropriate for a family audience (no nudity or violence), and the maximum outside frame size must not exceed 40 inches in any direction. Paintings that are on canvas and wrapped around the edges are acceptable unframed, p
rovided that the edges are painted, and that no staples show. All other work work must be appropriately framed. All work must have a hanging wire attached (no sawtooth or other hangers). The Museum’s hanging system will not accommodate sawtooth or other hangers. Wires placed one-fourth of the way from the top of the frame, and pulled relatively tightly, work best with the Museum’s hanging system. All artwork must be for sale.
